:: White Strips on the Simpsons in a week.
:: Oneida on NPR last month. I saw these guys at the Warehouse Next Door in DC, the night I was supposed to see Sleater-Kinney. They were my Plan B. And it was fantastic. Then I missed the Sleater-Kinney makeup show because I was in Boston. Wah!
:: By the way, that photo I took of the "Plan B" graffiti is going to be in the next issue of Arthur magazine, for which I get a free year-long subscription. How cool is that? Actually, the version is Arthur is higher-res, but looks pretty much the same.
:: I find the Washington Post's "Date Lab" feature addictive. The whole public aspect of the exercise raises some interesting questions. Such as, in today's, how is the guy going to react when he reads what this woman said about him? Is this "second date" they're planning going to fall apart?
:: I'm not the only one who thinks that The Beatles' "Please Please Me" is about oral sex, which is something of a comfort.
:: I love the song "Biojhelm" by Jab Mica Och El (MP3). As I was driving today, listening to this song, a flock of Canadian geese flew overhead, which somehow seemed fitting. You might disagree. I first heard it on the Panda's Hideout podcast. I'm glad the Panda's not going anywhere.

Re: public dating. In the chat session on this column, the editor reveals three things: 1) daters do not read the column until it appears in print, apparently several weeks after the fact, 2) the reporter speaks to both daters at least twice following the date, and 3) over the course of those two interviews the tone of the story and the other dater's opinions should be made clear. Seems they come down heavily on the side of transparency in dating. May be not such a bad thing?
Re: "Please Please Me." Very disconcerting image of my father dancing with/carrying around each of his three young girls while singing along with this song. He's never been too up on the innuendo, though.
Re: "Biojhelm." I like anagrams. Dig the song, too. Warm electronica is rare.
Posted by: kt on September 11, 2006 10:10 PMRe: Date Lab -- thanks for the spade work. Yes, transparency is something I can get behind.
I want cereal. Why am I hungry?
I'm sure someone could just as easily listen to "Please Please Me," or a host of other songs with veiled sexual content, and be convinced that the song is purely innocent. Sex is everywhere, though. Recently I was listening to a bunch of classic oldies tunes from the '50s -- songs I listened to and loved when I was a kid -- and I was just amazed to hear that so many of them were all about sex. I don't know if we remember often enough that the names of two of our most popular homegrown genres of music -- jazz and rock 'n' roll -- are terms for fucking. Well, "jazz" is in dispute. Rock 'n' roll is pretty obvious.
